Dehumidification

Belvent, at that time Bellinge Ventilation, was responsible for the installation of a retrofitted dehumidification system for the main cables as well as the bridge girders.

The New Little Belt Bridge was the first bridge in the world where dehumidification of the main cables and structural elements was used as the primary measure to protect the bridge against the effects of corrosion and rust—an alternative to paint, which had previously been used on similar structures.

It is also the first suspension bridge where a dehumidification system has been successfully retrofitted to the main cables.

Additional Works

Following a fire incident in 2013, the coating on the main cables had been damaged.

Davai and Belvent carried out repair works related to the damage. Fortunately, the dehumidification system itself was not affected and remained fully intact after the incident.

After the incident, it was determined that additional fire protection for the cables should be installed.

Wrapping

The dehumidification of the main cables was carried out in close collaboration with Davai, who were responsible for the successful wrapping and airtight sealing of the main cables.
